The physics model for tank movement has been drastically changed.  Tanks will now be able to ride over ledges, drive through rivers, push enemy and allied vehicles, etc...

Up to three camouflage patterns (summer, winter, sand) can be purchased and stored for each vehicle.  The pattern will be selected automatically depending on the classification of the map.  If there is no appropriate pattern, then no camouflage will be applied
Camouflage patterns now give 5% camouflage bonus to the vehicle characteristics
(all camouflage present on tanks at the time of the update will be removed, and a refund for the cost will be returned)

Benchmarking 0.8.0 update

Yesterday, WG updated their public test server of upcoming 0.8.0 patch to version #3

As far as I played with this new iteration I noticed that the engine performed better than previous iterations and a lot better than we currently have on live server (0.7.5) so I decided to make benchmarks of two different maps.
They did a pretty good job at refining the new engine, the current one we have on live (0.7.5) can barely sustain 60 FPS on my system (see the config below) and constantly drops to the 20FPS range.

These are the settings I use when normally play, for benchmarking purposes I disabled V-Sync, but normally I have it on. Also, I used a single mod, the shadow scope remover.

The custom settings I use are based on high quality preset:

And here is my system:

CPU: Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 @2.83Ghz
MEM: 8Gb DD2 1066Mhz
VID: ATi/AMD HD 7870 2GbRam GDD5

For each of the two maps, El Hallouf and WestField I benched, I used my custom settings and the maximum quality preset.
I used the battle replays and FRAPS in benchmark mode with the option to log the framerate.

El Hallouf

min: 55 | max: 122 | avg: 91 - custom
min: 20 | max: 93   | avg: 66 - max

WestField

min: 49 | max: 120 | avg: 77 - custom
min: 30 | max: 78   | avg: 48 - max

As you can see, the framerate the new render can sustain is more than decent, even on maximum quality settings.
There is a framerate "hit" when playing on WestField but that is because of the foliage (bushes, trees) that barely exist on El Hallouf.

Is losing a battle an actual punishment?

Since the 0.8.0 public testing has begun and WG made available the after battle report I noticed something rather strange, and not in a good way.
I noticed that the losing team is punished for losing the match. Let me explain:

The top guy in the losing team earns less XP than the bottom guy in the wining team. Sounds strange, doesn't it!?
(click on the image to enlarge)

In the above picture you can see that the top player in the losing team earned 381XP while the worst player in the wining team earned 474XP. Strange ...

Let's enter in some detail of what they actually done to earn that XP, shall we:
(click on the image to enlarge)

As you can see, our top guy in he loser team fired 18 shells which 15 of those found their target and 14 of those actually penetrated the target, with one bounce; doing in total 3747 points of damage to enemy tanks. Added to that, our guy detected one enemy tank. You can also notice he did 1HP points of damage to allied tank - we can ignore that since the amount it completely negligible (the penalty for 1HP damage to ally is extremely low).

Now for our bottom guy in the wining team. How did he do? Well, as you can clearly see, he fired 2 shells none of which found their target. Other than that, our guy did not do anything else that could've earned him XP.

Basically the guy that did nothing in the match earned more XP than the guy who did the most work in the enemy team, just because his team won the match (for him).

Bottom line is that now matter how hard you try to win the match, WG will punish you for losing it. That said, brings us to yet another discovery the new after battle report bought to surface: IDLEing in a match will earn you more XP than doing something. Sounds even stranger, doesn't it .. but more on this in the coming day(s).

WoT EU community @ work

For promoting the Golden Joystick Awards nomination for World of Tanks in the Best MMO category, WG Europe decided to create a contest.
A contest that requires users to submit forum signatures following a set of rules. Those signatures then shoul be posted on the special forum tread.

Simple? sound like it, but what WG EU did next will blow your mind ... for voting the nominations and electing the best forum signature, they requested the forum users to +rep the posts representing the signature they like - link here. And of course ended up in a major trolling contest on who gets the most neg reps.

WG EU getting overwhelmed with trolling has even turned to the word "please"

LATEST UPDATE:
Guys, please don't give minus reputation. If you don't like a signature just ignore it. We're here voting for the best ones!
Pluses only +

Could've they used the simple and effective pool with one vote per account? They could've ... but they didn't.

Internet at it's best
WoT EU community at it's worst.

Getting banned from US forums for negative comment

I don't usually go to US forums often or post that much there, but this Golden Joystick affair (bribery) got to me and I posted my view on things. I do go there mostly because they post information of the game status a lot faster than WoT EU portal ever did.
My post was not offensive in any way and I made sure I did not use words in offensive manner and still they completely deleted my post and immediately banned me from the forums for a unrelated reason:

REMOVED
0 Game alt account, offendingPermanent restriction

You would think that a country like America that was build on the foundations of civil liberties they would not do that, but still they did and I felt deeply offended by the treatment I got. They run the forums like the secret soviet police and delete any form of negative comment toward their company and products.
I immediately contacted support and demanded an explanation, in reply they lifted my ban:

Dear Player,
Thank you for contacting World of Tanks support.
The current sanction has been removed from your account. Part of the confusion came from you account not having any battles on the NA Server, please be careful when posting on forums while not having any games player on our server.
Thank you for contacting World of Tanks support, and please do not hesitate to call on us again.

Best Regards,
Christopher Mckenny
Wargaming Support Service

Update: After some more talk with support, they restored my post but they did not removed the warning points I received ... oh well. Thankfully the support team has more common sense than the moderators.
For those interested, you can view the original post here.
